Behind-the-meter calculator
What one meter at the grid connection reads when a site has load, solar and a battery behind it.
A teaching aid. Every preset is invented. Power in kW over one hour equals energy in kWh. The battery is on the AC side of the meter. Use a comma or a point for decimals, for example 92,5. Avoid thousands separators.
1. One hour
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Meter reading at the grid connection | |
| Grid import, kW | |
| Grid export, kW | |
| Gross solar generation, kW (not visible at this meter) | |
| Site load, kW (not visible at this meter) | |
| Solar minus battery charge, kW (netted off before the meter) | |
| Meter import as a share of site load |
2. One day, with and without the battery

The battery charges only from solar surplus and discharges only to meet load. It starts empty. It never charges from the grid or exports on purpose.
