DWG and DXF unit check
Pick one length you know. See what an importing tool shows if its unit differs from the file's unit.
A design aid. The preset lengths are invented (a 12 m roof edge). The match tolerance (1%) is our choice. Units are the five common ones; the file's unit code is in the DXF header variable INSUNITS.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| True length (m) | - |
| Length the tool shows (m) | - |
| Scale error: tool divided by true | - |
| Area error: the same factor squared | - |
| Length if the declared unit is right (m) | - |
| Unit that fits the stored number (within 1%) | - |
Method: length in metres = stored number times metres per unit. Metres per unit: mm 0.001, cm 0.01, m 1, in 0.0254, ft 0.3048 (exact definitions). Numbers accept 12,000 or 0,5 style input; ambiguous text such as 1.000 is rejected.
