Depth of discharge calculator
Turn a nominal kWh and a depth of discharge (DoD) limit into usable kWh, then see how long a throughput or cycle cap lasts at your daily use.
Read this first. Every default is an invented placeholder, not a product's data or a real warranty. Read the DoD limit and the warranty terms from the maker's own documents. Use a dot for decimals; "10,000" is read as ten thousand. Part 1 counts a cycle as kWh out divided by usable kWh, which may not match your warranty's cycle definition. No capacity fade or efficiency is modelled.
1. Usable energy and warranty years
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Usable energy (nominal × DoD limit) | - |
| Daily energy as a share of nominal, and of usable | - |
| Cycles per day, counted as kWh out ÷ usable | - |
| Energy out per year | - |
| Years until the throughput cap is reached | - |
| Years until the cycle cap is reached | - |
| Which limit comes first | - |
| Energy out by that point | - |
2. Nominal kWh needed for a usable target
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Nominal energy needed (usable ÷ DoD limit) | - |
| Modules needed, and usable kWh they give | - |
If the sheet lists usable energy as AC delivered or DC stored, check which basis it uses before comparing.
Method: usable = nominal × DoD limit, the relation OpenSolar's help page states for its battery model. Years to cap = cap ÷ (daily kWh out × 365).
