Review policy

This is how we write each of our 50 software reviews, from the first page we read to the day we update it. The same rules apply to every product.

How a review is written

  1. Read the company’s own website. We open its product, pricing, help, docs and trust pages. We read 6 to 15 pages per product.
  2. Write down each fact. Every fact gets a mark (such as verified or company claim), a source link and the date we read it.
  3. Re-check prices and key facts. A second person checks every price, free plan and free trial claim on the live pricing page, and spot-checks other facts.
  4. Edit for plain language and fairness. We check each sentence against its source, cut hype words, and make sure the pros, cons and verdict agree with the facts.
  5. Pass the automatic checks. Our code checks every review before it can go live. A review with too little evidence is held back.

What every review contains

Every review uses the same template, in the same order: a quick verdict, the evidence score, key features, who it suits and who it doesn’t, pricing, ease of use, integrations, AI, API, security, pros and cons, what users say on other sites, alternatives, sources and FAQs.

If we could not find or read something, the review says so. We never fill a gap with a guess.

How the score is set

The evidence score is worked out by code from the facts in the review. One rule applies to every product, and nobody types a score in by hand. It measures how much we could confirm on the company’s website. It is not a quality rating. See the full scoring rule.

Ratings and quotes from other sites

  • Where they come from. Review sites such as G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, GetApp, Software Advice and Trustpilot, Google reviews, and app stores.
  • Ratings. We show the star rating and the number of reviews exactly as the site shows them, with a link and the date we checked. If we only saw the numbers in a search listing, the review says so.
  • Quotes. We copy short quotes word for word, 30 words or fewer, and shorten them only with “…”. We show the reviewer’s name exactly as the other site shows it, plus their job and the date when given, and link to the source.
  • Balance. Where we can, we show one positive and one critical quote, so the page is not one-sided.
  • What they never do. Outside ratings never change our evidence score. We never put them in the code we give search engines. We never edit, invent or translate a quote.
  • Ownership. Ratings and quotes belong to the people who wrote them and the sites that host them. If you wrote a review and want your quote removed, tell us.

How we use software tools

Software helps us collect pages, draft text from our facts and run checks. It never supplies a fact. Every fact must come from a page we opened, with its source and date. A person reviews every page before it goes live.

What companies can and can’t do

  • They can send a correction with a link to their own page, and reply once to any finding. We publish the reply next to it.
  • They can’t pay for a review, a score, a place on a page or a badge. They can’t see a review before it is published, or ask us to remove a fair finding.
  • SolarSoftwares is published by SurgePV Technologies Ltd. Its group’s two products, SurgePV and Quickest Solar CRM, follow exactly the same rules, and their review pages say who makes them.

Updates and corrections

  • Every fact shows the date we read it. Each review shows the date of its last full check.
  • A review not re-checked within 90 days leaves our sitemap. After 180 days it shows an out-of-date warning.
  • When we fix a mistake, we change the review and record the fix in our corrections log.
