Common questions

What is solar software?

It is the software solar companies use to design systems, estimate power, send quotes, track leads and run jobs. Most companies use more than one tool.

Which types of solar software are there?

We sort it into 9 types: Design & simulation, CRM & lead management, Monitoring & asset management, Proposals & sales, Operations & project management, Site selection & GIS, Storage & microgrid, Aerial & thermal inspection, Dealer & sales teams.

How do I choose solar software?

Start with the job you need done. Open that category, read two or three reviews, then compare the two closest. Check how each one charges, if it has a free plan or trial, and what it connects to.

What is the difference between solar design software and a solar CRM?

Design software plans the panels, checks shade and estimates power. A CRM tracks leads, calls and deals. Some tools do both. Each review shows which jobs a tool covers.

Is there free solar software?

Yes. 4 products are free to use: NREL System Advisor Model (SAM), OpenSolar, PVGIS, SolarEdge Designer. 7 more have a free plan with paid upgrades: Easy PV, ERPNext, Odoo, Quickest Solar CRM (QuickEstimate), SalesRabbit, SMA Sunny Design, SolarHub CRM.

How much does solar software cost?

It depends on the tool and how it charges. 22 of 50 products show no public price, so you must ask the company. 11 are free or have a free plan. Prices come per user, per project, per year or per license, so compare the unit, not just the number.

How can I compare two products?

Pick the first product on our compare page. The second list shows the products we have compared with it. There are 98 comparisons so far.

How does SolarSoftwares check product information?

We read each fact on the company’s own website. Each fact gets a source link, the date we read it and a mark: verified, company claim, not found or could not read.

How often is pricing updated?

Every price shows the date we read it. Reviews were last checked on 6 October 2026. After 180 days a review shows an out-of-date warning.

Does SolarSoftwares test every product?

No. We did not test the tools hands-on. We read each company’s own website and record what we find, with the source and the date.
