ERPNext Review 2026

A free, open-source business system (ERP, software that runs accounts, stock and projects in one place). A solar company can set it up for its own work.

Best for
Solar EPCs and installers wanting low-cost stock, projects and accounts in one system.

Our quick verdict

ERPNext gives you accounts, stock, buying, projects, assets and service tickets in one open-source system. There is no per-user fee. You pay only for hosting, from $5 a month on Frappe Cloud. The main drawback is that nothing is built for solar. It has no design, no savings proposals and no monitoring, so you add those yourself.

Best for

Solar EPCs and installers wanting low-cost stock, projects and accounts in one system.

Not ideal for

Small sales-led installers that need solar design, proposals and finance tools out of the box.

Biggest strength

Full ERP with no user fees and open code you can change.

Biggest weakness

No solar tools at all, so setup work falls on you or a partner.

Top alternative: Odoo. Pick it if you want an ERP with more ready-made apps and paid hosting with support.

What can ERPNext help you do?

  1. 01

    Run solar installs as projects

You break each install into milestones and tasks, often from a project template. You link costs, timesheets and stock to the project. That shows if a job made money.

  2. 02

Buy and track panels and inverters

Purchase orders, approvals, supplier scorecards and warehouses are built in. Serial and batch tracking help you trace each panel or inverter.

  3. 03

    Quote and invoice customers

The CRM covers leads, opportunities and quotations. Sales orders and invoices follow, with tax rules for many countries.

  4. 04

    Handle service and repairs

The support module tracks tickets, SLAs and maintenance visits. That fits after-sale service on built systems.

  5. 05

    Track company equipment

The assets module covers buying, depreciation and scrapping of tools, vehicles and equipment.

It is a full ERP, so there is a lot to set up. The company itself points DIY users to the docs and others to partners or Starter Packs. A no-code builder helps you add fields and forms for solar work.
