Solar SCADA software is the control system that runs a utility-scale solar plant. SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) reads live data from the plant and sends commands back. Power Factors Unity ranks first on this list, at 71.0/100, for SCADA, plant control and asset performance in one suite.

Unity joins local and central SCADA, a power plant controller (PPC) and a storage EMS (energy management system) with asset tools. Its control products came from its 2022 merger with Inaccess. Bluence, from Isotrol, also covers the RTU (remote terminal unit). Trimark launched True:SCADA in September 2025.

What does this solar SCADA ranking cover?

SCADA runs a utility-scale plant in real time. It reads inverters, trackers, meters and substation equipment. The PPC then sends set-points (target output levels) back. That keeps the plant inside the limits set by the grid and its connection deal.

A monitoring tool only reads. That is why several well-known monitoring tools are not ranked here.

Few products qualify. Of 10 products we looked at, only 6 solar tools reached our minimum match score (4 out of 10). One of those, PVH DeepTrack, runs trackers rather than the full plant.

This page is for owners and builders of utility-scale and large commercial and industrial (C&I) plants. That includes IPPs (independent power producers), utilities and EPCs (engineering and construction firms). It is not aimed at home installers.

Running the farm after handover? Our solar farm management software guide covers the wider set of tools for running a plant. Our solar O&M software guide covers O&M (operations and maintenance) work, such as work orders.

How did we rank these solar SCADA tools?

How the score is weighted

  • Use-case fit 35%
  • User reviews 20%
  • Pricing 15%
  • Ease of use 10%
  • Support 10%
  • Momentum 10%

We looked at 10 products and scored 8 between 22 and 25 October 2026. We ranked 6, listed 1 general tool on its own and put 1 under Also considered. We used company documents, trade press and public user reviews. This was desk research. We did not run any plant or controller.

Inaccess is now part of Power Factors, so we cover it inside the Power Factors entry. We left out Nor-Cal Controls because it sells build services, not boxed software. We scored each product on six points.

  • Use-case fit (35%): How well it does this page’s job. SCADA and plant control on record count most, then monitoring. The product must also serve utility-scale plants.
  • User reviews (20%): Ratings from only a few reviews count for less. No SCADA tool here has enough public reviews to move this score.
  • Pricing (15%): Public prices score higher than quote only. Every product here is quote only.
  • Ease of use, support and momentum (10% each): Review sub-scores and dated product updates. With no proof, the score is neutral.

Products below the minimum score go to "Also considered". If we could not confirm a product’s core facts with the company, it loses 2 points. Emerson Ovation Green gets the same scoring but sits on its own. It is built on a general factory control system. SurgePV is not part of this ranking.

What does a solar SCADA stack contain?

A solar SCADA stack has six parts.

  • Plant SCADA and HMI (operator screens): Live watch over inverters, trackers, meters, MET (weather) stations and the substation. It holds alarms and a historian (a long-term data store).
  • Power plant controller (PPC): Controls active power, reactive power or power factor, voltage and frequency response. It does this at the point where the plant meets the grid.
  • RTU and grid telemetry: The link to the grid operator, for example CAISO’s Remote Intelligent Gateway (RIG). As a rule, this link runs over standard data protocols (shared communication rules) such as DNP3 or IEC 60870-5-104. Check what your grid operator asks for.
  • Central SCADA or remote control room: One control room across many plants.
  • EMS for storage: Charge and discharge plans for BESS (battery storage) on the same site.
  • Asset performance management: Analysis that sits above SCADA. Our solar asset management software ranking covers this in more depth.

1. Power Factors Unity: best for SCADA, PPC and asset performance in one suite

Best for: IPPs, asset managers and large O&M providers running utility-scale solar, wind and BESS fleets. Score: 71.0/100.

What it is: Power Factors Unity is a large suite for SCADA, plant control, EMS, APM (asset performance management), field service and commercial asset work. Its SCADA, PPC and EMS came from Inaccess, which joined Power Factors in June 2022 and lives on as Unity SCADA. Power Factors also folded its Drive, Greenbyte and BluePoint brands into Unity.

Which general tools do installers also use?

We score this product on the same rubric as the ranking above. It sits on a general factory control system, not a solar product, so we list it on its own.

Emerson Ovation Green (general industrial control platform): 63.1/100

Ovation Green is Emerson’s renewables suite for SCADA, plant control and asset records. It is built on Ovation, Emerson’s general automation and DCS (distributed control system) platform.

It fits this job well because it has a full plant controller on record. A June 2026 Emerson release describes its use at Holy Cross Energy’s solar and storage sites in Colorado.

  • Ovation Green SCADA with IEC 61724 KPIs (the PV output-monitoring standard), alarms, trends and reports.
  • Farm-to-grid PPC covering real power, frequency response, reactive power or power factor, and AVR (automatic voltage regulation).
  • Asset records with NERC GADS (North American outage reporting) and uptime tracking.
  • BESS scheduling, a microgrid controller and Ovation Plant Prognostics fault analysis.

  • SOLV Energy SCADA: An EPC service, not software.
  • Array SmartTrack and GameChange tracker controls: Tracker control systems, not plant SCADA, so not scored.
  • Bazefield and Enerman ETI SOL: Not scored because we could not confirm their current status and core facts.

How do you choose solar SCADA software?

  • Want SCADA, PPC, storage EMS and asset performance from one company across a large portfolio? Pick Power Factors Unity.
  • For a central control room over many plants in Europe or Latin America, shortlist Bluence.
  • Plants that interconnect in CAISO and need RIG telemetry and revenue metering should pick Trimark.
  • If you already use Emerson Ovation elsewhere in your fleet, compare Ovation Green.
  • When you mainly need portfolio monitoring and PPA uptime with a SCADA option, look at GreenPowerMonitor or PowerTrack. Compare them with our solar farm management guide.
  • On PVH trackers, add DeepTrack for tracker control next to plant SCADA, not instead of it.
  • Need a custom controls package rather than a product? Talk to an integrator. Nor-Cal Controls, now part of Mortenson, is one example.

Solar SCADA software FAQs

What is SCADA in a solar power plant?

SCADA is software that reads live data from a plant’s inverters, trackers, meters and substation equipment, then sends commands back. Utility-scale PV usually adds operator screens, alarms, a power plant controller and a grid data link. As of October 2026, Power Factors, Bluence and Trimark list all of these.

What is the difference between solar SCADA and solar monitoring?

Monitoring reads data and raises alerts. SCADA also controls the plant, including set-points for active and reactive power. VCOM Cloud, for example, is a good monitoring and upkeep tool but shows no plant control. That left it below our minimum match score in October 2026.

Do commercial solar systems need SCADA?

Most rooftop C&I systems run on monitoring platforms, not SCADA. Larger C&I and utility-scale plants usually need plant control. The utility or grid operator sets the data-link and power rules in the grid-connection deal, so check them first. Trimark builds CAISO RIG telemetry for US plants (checked October 2026).

What does a solar power plant controller (PPC) do?

A PPC sets the whole plant’s output where it meets the grid. It sends set-points to the inverters so the plant follows grid rules. Power Factors sells a PPC for PV, BESS and hybrid plants. Emerson lists frequency response and automatic voltage regulation for Ovation Green (both checked October 2026).

Who are the main solar SCADA providers for utility-scale plants?

Power Factors, Bluence by Isotrol and Trimark score highest in our October 2026 ranking. GreenPowerMonitor (DNV) and PowerTrack follow. Emerson Ovation Green also scores well but is built on a general factory control system. Nor-Cal Controls, now owned by Mortenson, builds custom systems as a service.
