10 Best Scanifly Alternatives for Solar Installers

How we research

The short answer: Aurora Solar is the best Scanifly alternative for most US home installers. It builds models remotely with LIDAR (laser height data) and prints its prices. PV*SOL premium suits European designers. PVcase Roof Mount suits commercial teams that still use drone images. EagleView suits installers who want a roof report per job, with no drone.

Scanifly alternatives are design and site-survey tools you can use instead of Scanifly, a US design and field platform built around drone surveys. Aurora Solar ranks first at 76.5/100. PV*SOL premium ranks second at 71.5/100.

With Scanifly, crews fly a site, upload the photos, and get a 3D model with shading. It also offers remote designs from satellite and LiDAR (laser height) data, plus outsourced plan sets (permit drawing packages).

Installers look for Scanifly alternatives for four reasons. Scanifly publishes no prices, design work runs on credits, and drone surveys and design services cost extra. Its most detailed models need a drone flight, by your own crew or as a paid service. It is US-focused, with no stated service abroad. And it has only 3 G2 reviews, so there is little user evidence to judge it by. For a ranked list across every segment, see our best solar design software ranking.

How did we score these Scanifly alternatives?

How the score is weighted

  • Use-case fit 35%
  • User reviews 20%
  • Pricing 15%
  • Ease of use 10%
  • Support 10%
  • Momentum 10%

From 22 to 25 October 2026 we scored Scanifly and 13 rivals from company pages, price lists and user reviews. We did not test them hands-on. The 10 best rivals are ranked below. Scanifly is the benchmark, not a contender.

  • Use-case fit (35%): How well a tool does Scanifly’s job: layout, 3D site models, shading and site survey.
  • User reviews (20%): Ratings on G2, Capterra and Trustpilot. Fewer than 8 reviews earns a neutral 5/10.
  • Pricing (15%): Published prices beat quote-only.
  • Ease of use, support and momentum (10% each): Review sub-scores and dated releases.

Services such as outsourced plan sets are not scored as software. SurgePV is not part of this ranking. Read the full method.

  • Solargraf: Scored 58.9/100. It gives US permit plan sets on every plan from USD 2,799 a year, but has no drone capture and a Capterra rating of 3.2/5. See our Solargraf alternatives.
  • SolarPlus: Scored 58.8/100. It has 3D shading with tree modelling, but it is focused on Australia and New Zealand and has one G2 review.
  • Solmetric SunEye-210: Scored 53.4/100. This handheld shade tool costs USD 2,195 one-off, but it is out of stock with a 10-12 week lead time. See our SunEye alternatives.

How do you choose a Scanifly alternative?

  • If you left Scanifly because of credit costs, pick Aurora Solar for US homes or OpenSolar if you want free.
  • If you have no drone or field crew, pick Aurora Solar, or buy EagleView reports per job.
  • If you still fly drones on commercial roofs, pick PVcase Roof Mount, or Reonic in Europe.
  • If you work outside the US, pick PV*SOL premium, OpenSolar or Reonic.
  • If a lender’s advisor needs P50/P90 numbers, pick PVsyst.
  • If your work is ground-mount or utility-scale, pick RatedPower or PVcase Ground Mount.

For wider lists, see our site survey apps, roof measurement software and shading analysis software rankings, and the design and simulation category.

How do you switch from Scanifly?

  • Export first. Download your site models, photos, CAD files and shade reports before your access ends.
  • Use up your credits. Finish open designs so paid credits are not wasted.
  • Decide on capture. Choose drone, satellite, LIDAR or roof reports, and set this up before your first job.
  • Run a parallel job. Model one or two sites in both tools and compare the layout and shade results.
  • Check approvals. If a lender or regulator accepted Scanifly’s onsite shading, ask whether the new tool’s output is also accepted.

Scanifly alternatives FAQs

What is the best alternative to Scanifly?

Aurora Solar is the best Scanifly alternative in our October 2026 ranking, at 76.5/100. It builds models remotely with LIDAR on Premium, from USD 259 per user per month. PV*SOL premium is the top pick for European designers.

How much does Scanifly cost per design?

Scanifly does not publish prices. As of October 2026, its site offers "Book a Demo" only. Design work runs on credits, and drone surveys and design services cost extra. Expect to book a demo to get a number.

Do I need a drone to replace Scanifly, or can satellite imagery do the job?

Not always. Aurora Solar builds site models remotely and EagleView sells roof reports from aerial images, with no drone. Image gaps still happen, and EagleView reviewers note gaps for new builds and tree cover (October 2026).

Is Scanifly better than Aurora Solar?

For crews who fly drones on every job, Scanifly’s DroneDesign is built for that. For most home installers, Aurora is easier to budget, with prices from USD 159 per user per month. It also has 121 G2 reviews against Scanifly’s 3 (October 2026).

What replaced the Solmetric SunEye for shade analysis?

The SunEye-210 is still listed at USD 2,195, but it was out of stock with a 10-12 week lead time in October 2026. Scanifly’s own site calls it "the new SunEye". EagleView’s Inform Advanced gives TSRF and solar access values in select US states without a site visit.

Is there a Scanifly alternative outside the US?

Yes. PV*SOL premium serves Europe, and Reonic covers Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the UK. OpenSolar says it is used in more than 160 countries. PVsyst, RatedPower and the PVcase tools are used worldwide on larger projects (checked October 2026).
